Description
Colours in the Distance. The Painter Ante Trstenjak and the Sorbs of Lusatia
Lusatia plays a significant role in the works of the Slovenian artist Ante Trstenjak (1894–1970). Fascinated by the diverse traditional costumes worn by Sorbian girls and women, he travelled around Upper and Lower Lusatia for studies that defined his artistic works of art right into the 1960s. The exhibition and accompanying catalogue of the Sorbian Museum in Bautzen were created in close cooperation with the Maribor Art Gallery and the National Museum in Prague. This book presents the entire spectrum of works by Trstenjak inspired by Lusatia and compares them with selected pieces painted by Ludvík Kuba. The publication not only contains specialist articles but also features texts collected by the authors in a private context, Ante Trstenjak’s biography and a multitude of colour illustrations. The exhibition catalogue is only the second more extensive monograph on the artist to be published.
